I'll stick to the JGB versions as they blow away any GD version that I've heard. 2-22-80 may be the best.

I agree that the JGB versions of Masterpiece are far superior to the Deads,the one from 2/14/81 is a really fine take on it and he also rips a Tangled Up in the same show.

yeah, i too prefer the jgb versions- particularly the very soulful versions from '72- but i have come around to the gd versions lately. some pretty big group performances in the late 80's. maybe they felt that "in the dark" was their masterpiece...

Not a connoisseur of JGB, to be honest. I may check this out. 9-18 is still a stellar show - at least for me.
